Olives
The Olive Tree is a source of life. All around Crete you will see olive trees wherever you go. Many of them are hundreds of years old and some are several thousand years old and still producing olives.
The main occupation of local people during the Winter period is to collect the olives from the trees and produce olive oil.
There are many varieties of Olive Tree including the Psiloelia, Hontroelia and Tsounato.
It is well known that each Cretan family has its own olive trees so that they can produce oil for their housekeeping.
